Our Story

I grew up surrounded by family who cooked great food. My father was an excellent cook, not by profession but because of his love for good fresh food. My mum, a vegetarian, was always experimenting and creating delicious dishes using combinations of spices and lots of chillies!

I was never involved in much cooking and in fact it was only in my thirties, once I had my children, that I was faced with having to create interesting and tasty dishes to satisfy their palates. Family I could call upon were not around so I was faced with the huge challenge of having to learn very quickly how to blend and match spices. This involved lots of reflection and trying to decipher how my parents would create delicious meals. There was no end of mistakes; my children can tell many tales.  But I was very determined not to let my parents down. So my journey of learning and creating started. Sadly there are no recorded family recipes and many times I had to go back down memory lane to reflect on how and what my parents would have done to create meals. They never failed in communicating with me from the other side.     

After retiring for the second time in 2020, my  plan was to work on an ad hoc basis to supplement the many journeys I was going to undertake, especially spending the winter months in warmer climates. But COVID happened and life as we knew it changed. I would probably have never started this business if my son had not asked for something spicy on the side with his meals, having returned to the UK after several years abroad. I started to play with different flavour combinations and offered several tastings to friends and family,  the feedback from which was resoundingly positive. The seed of a business was planted. At this point, the idea of going behind a desk was not so appealing and a very serious idea of how to market my products was born. 

To get to this point has involved many sleepless nights.  My confidence has wavered many times while I have questioned  the wisdom of involving myself in a business I have very little knowledge of. The question of how I was going to fund it was forever uppermost in my mind.  I’m not one to sit on my laurels so I took on some agency work and readjusted my housekeeping budget to make funds available for this new journey,  my new challenge. I believe in my products because in some karmic way my parents helped me to stay focused whenever I wavered.  In order to remember and pay my respects to them their names (Amar and Vidwant) are incorporated into Bavi.  

I also offer my appreciation and thank you to my children, Remy and Jai, who are always unwavering in their support, whatever I decide to do. I am thankful also to Elisa for her consistent encouragement and to Dirk for all the branding artwork.

Our Products

Bavi's Condiments is a small home-based business that packs a lot of flavour in all my products. All my condiments are made by hand in small batches with carefully sourced ingredients that are minimally processed.

All our products are cooked in a kitchen that uses other products, which may contain soya, dairy, lupin, gluten, nuts, shellfish, fish, eggs, peanuts, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, celery, mustard, sulphites and may contain traces or all of the above. 

Red Chilli Relish

Medium/Hot Chilli relish is made with a variety of fresh and dried red chillies, onions, garlic, ginger as well as whole and freshly ground spices.  This version is certainly hotter/spicier than the mild/medium green chilli version. 

Use it on the side to add extra heat and spice to any food or dish.

All my relishes are made using fresh ingredients and spices that are freshly roasted and grounded for each batch. Simmered in a large open pan for many hours to gently allow flavours to blend and intensify until the desired consistency and rich texture is reached

Ingredients: chillies (46%), onion (32%), sunflower oil, apple cider vinegar, orange, garlic, white wine vinegar, lemon, ginger, cardamom, fennel seed, pink salt, black salt, dill seed, caraway, aniseed, cinnamon, cumin, coriander, shah jeera, bay leaf, allspice, black pepper, rose petal, star anise, clove, mace, kalpasi nutmeg.

Green Chilli Relish

Mild/Medium Chilli relish is made using fresh green chillies, onions, garlic, ginger as well as whole and freshly grounded spices.

A milder version of the red chilli relish. Can be used as a dip, on crackers, as part of cheese boards and crudite platters, on a slice of toasted baguette. The options are endless.

Ingredients: chillies (47%), onion (31%), sunflower oil, apple cider vinegar, orange, garlic, white wine vinegar, lime juice, ginger, cardamom, Scotch bonnet, fennel seed, pink salt, black salt, rock salt, dill seed, caraway seed, aniseed, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, Kashmiri chilli, deggi mirch, shah jeera, Sichuan pepper, bay leaf, allspice, turmeric, black pepper, rose petal, star anise, nutmeg, mace, kalpasi, clove.

Tomato Relish

Spicy Tomato Relish is made using fresh cherry vine tomatoes, onions, chillies, garlic, ginger and simmered with whole and freshly grounded spices.  

Extremely versatile as a condiment for dips, sandwich spread with a kick, for spicing up egg dishes including omelettes, poached eggs and scrambled eggs.  This moreish relish will liven up soups, stir fries and is great on a cheese board or even stirred into natural Greek yoghurt. Can be added to batters, sauces, and curries. The choices are unlimited.

Ingredients: cherry tomato (64%), onion (15%), chillies (10%), sunflower oil, apple cider vinegar, fermented lemon & orange, white wine vinegar, pink salt, chili powders (Kashmiri, Degi, Sichuan), black salt, rock salt, cumin, ginger, aniseed, fennel, mustard seed, nigella, coriander, garlic, caraway, dill, turmeric, black pepper, cardamom, allspice, cinnamon, bay leaf, rose petal, star anise, nutmeg, clove, mace, kalpasi, Urad Dal.

Cooking Sauces

Medium Spiced masala sauces made in my kitchen using fresh ingredients and selected spices, some of which are freshly ground specifically for each batch.  

Great to keep in your larder for those lazy days when you might not want to spend a lot of time in preparation or for the unexpected arrival of visitors. Twist open the jar and enjoy cooking meat, chicken or vegetables with a kick.

Seasoned nut mix

A mix of almonds, cashews, sesame seeds and fennel slowly roasted and coated with jaggery and cardamoms. Perfect as a snack at any time of the day. The mix is delicious on its own or try sprinkling the crunch over cereals and yoghurt to take it to another level of deliciousness.

Nuts are roasted slow roasted at low temperatures for added crunch before being coated in jaggery (also known as Panela)

Chocolate covered filled dates

Selection of Medjool dates filled with unique fillings and coated with white and dark chocolates, coconut, seeds and nuts.

Thank you for your interest in my condiments.  Because I am a one person operation and due to the time it takes to produce each batch, I offer limited quantities of condiments and confections available for direct purchase.   You can place orders directly with me via email. Below is a list of stockists if you prefer to purchase in person.
